My Life’ by Maggie Inexperienced of Spinifex Hill Studio is a group of 13 radiant artworks that inform the tales and geography of the artist’s childhood.
Now primarily based within the Pilbara, a distant area within the North of Western Australia, Maggie grew up together with her household at Myroodah Station, a sheep and cattle station within the West Kimberley Area. ‘[I was] born on station, Myroodah Station, Derby aspect. My mom and father, granddad, grandmother, uncles, aunties, all of us been grew up there. I been going to highschool there,’ she displays. Maggie speaks of tenting in rivers each weekend and life together with her household, ‘Mum Dad, two brother, three sister, all grew up on the station. My brother been be taught us for looking. My mum’s realized us to catch turtles’.
Myroodah Station is the place Maggie lived, went to highschool, labored and first began to color. She realized her distinctive dot portray type from her mom and grandmother. ‘We begin doing portray on Myroodah Station’, Maggie explains. ‘My mum and my grandmother educating us doing portray for us. That’s how we had been studying dot paint.’
Created from densely-layered fields of colored dot work, Maggie’s canvases are semi-abstract renderings of panorama. Separating colour-blocked shapes with natural, fluid strains, she creates surroundings tinged with emotion, reminiscence and texture in vivid hues and pastel shades.
Maggie paints in two layers of gridded dots. She begins by sketching out the identical factor on each canvas, two strains drawn down the centre in chalk representing the street at Myroodah Station the place she grew up. She then attracts two squares on both aspect of the street; the varsity and the bathroom block. She layers dense fields of colored dot work over the unique design, obscuring the neat footprint with vibrant palettes, intuitive shapes and heavy textures. However beneath each portray is similar design: the street and two buildings the place she grew up.
‘That’s the street,’ Maggie explains, directing her finger to the centre of the canvas. ‘That is the home,’ she says, pointing to a bit of the portray adjoining to the street, mapping out the realm she as soon as known as house.
