That is an unconventional interiors story for us. Largely as a result of nothing has been modified since this Mount Waverley home was in-built 1976. However that’s what makes it so epic!
The house of Ted and Denise Mason has been lovingly documented by their granddaughter, stylist Cassie Smith, who remembers spending years right here consuming banana smoothies and making furnishings in her grandfather’s workshop out the again.
Ted – a civil and mechanical engineer who constructed all the things from automobiles to submarines – designed all the things himself, appearing as architect, draftsman, inside designer and landscaper on the venture. ‘He even constructed a to-scale mannequin of the venture, which nonetheless exists!’ laughs Cassie. ‘Nearly each ebook, decoration, piece of furnishings and lightweight becoming had been there since 1976.’
Shag pile carpet, macrame plant hangers, and rattan from flooring to ceiling greet guests from the brink whereas brass particulars, curved archways, designer light-fittings and iconic mid-century Australian furnishings unfold as they transfer via the home. Traditional classic items like Featherston eating chairs, lounge suites by Fler and Aristoc, and Stylecraft armchairs galvanise its retro standing.
Each component of the home had been painstakingly documented by Ted. ‘In his folders have been handwritten lists of each paint color and wooden stain that was used all through the home,’ Cassie says. ‘He even saved the brochure for the mouldings and vinyl color samples for a number of the furnishings that they had customized made.’
The wealthy textures and deep jewel tones (hey crimson and emerald inexperienced accents!) are complemented by inexperienced vinyl eating chairs, gold-flecked lino and geometric-patterned curtains – all completely intact. Ted’s impeccable eye for element is on present in each room – the purple tiles within the bed room are even color matched to the doorhandles!
The one factor Cassie added forward of this shoot was some lush inexperienced velvet bedding from Kip&Co (‘which was in all probability not too far off what they could have had within the 70s!’) – plus some decorative vegetation that have been widespread on the time.
This untouched gem completely suspended in time provides new that means to the phrase ‘without end house’!
