Generally, it’s an architect’s job to make as little impression as doable.
‘When the house owners bought the positioning it was a vacant hillside of some 8.5 hectares’, explains Sarah Gilbertson, Principal architect and designer at Auckland-based agency Cheshire Architects. ‘Their first occupation of the positioning was constructed largely by themselves.’ A timber-lined container was positioned excessive on a hill with a big deck oriented in the direction of the view, an outside lavatory, BBQ and campfire. The dwelling was easy, and the life lived in it was one carefully aligned with nature.
